Honey is one of the most delicious and nourishing foods that can be consumed during breakfast and snack meals. Certainly honey that is pure and natural has a better taste and higher amount of nutrition. But the matter is how to check purity of honey and how to realize if honey is not organic.

There is only one way for an ordinary customer how to check purity of honey and that is the taste of and using the senses. Color and viscosity of honey cannot be a good factor in purity of it. Climate and flowers that bees used it to create honey will effect the color and viscosity of honey dramatically. But a pure honey has the taste and odor of flowers.

How to check purity of honey ?!

Some users have considered some factor how to check purity of honey like:

  • Some believe that if honey deposit some debris it is not pure and organic.
  • Some say that real organic honey is clear and transparent.
  • Hold a drop of honey on your finger. If it holds together is pure but if not, fake.

But NONE of the mentioned is not the way how to check purity of honey. You should know that above mentioned are just ordinary people saying and the only way to realized and examine a pure honey is inside laboratory and using Refractometer machine.

Honey is one of the most nutritious food and it is full of minerals, vitamins and natural sugar that honey bee, after choosing the best flowers and sucking the molasses, and of course after adding a variety of enzyme and some chemical process inside his body will turn it into an odorous, energetic and remedial called honey.

But what is the factor in choosing a pure organic honey?

For ordinary user the only way would be using his or her sense. You can examine the honey by your eyes, taste it by your tongue and smell it with your nose. If the color, taste and odor of the honey was right; it is worthy to pay a suitable amount of money for it.

Seeing crystals inside honey is not the sign of a fake honey.

What you see as a crystal inside honey sometimes is the result of crystallization of natural sugar inside it. But there is a difference between natural sugar crystals and unnatural extra added sugar inside honey. In the case of natural, when you taste the honey, the crystals inside your mouth are not rough. But in the case of unnatural ones you can feel them crunching under your teeth.

Because of high percentage of sugar inside it, honey is actually solid. But in some circumstances it turns into high viscose liquid. so it tends to change into solid state by a little change in temperature and crystallization.

This matter has made a lot of problems for producers in this field. In one hand if they produce honey without any crystal it would not be pure and organic and in another hand pure honey that crystalize sometimes will make a negative effect on the customer and they probably will not buy it and think it is not organic.

So pay attention that having crystal inside it is not the sign of a bad or not organic honey or the fake ones.

How to differ organic crystalized honey from the artificially added sugar crystalized honey?

As said before organic, pure honey ‘s crystal, if goes under your teeth, is not rough and will not have any tickling sound. Also pure organic honey will deposit at the bottom of the container after aging. But not pure and artificially added sugar when turned into crystal, is hard to chew and will stick to your teeth and is like candy. This is the way how to check purity of honey.

Note that these kind of not pure honey will crystalize without depositing and after a short period of time.

Why available processed honey inside super markets does not crystallize?

To prevent honey from crystallization, packing factories do some process like heating the honey or add citrus and other added materials. This added material will postpone process of crystallization.

In some workshops when heating the honey to prevent crystallization, if temp. is higher than the permitted value, not only it will destroy the vitamins inside it, but also will cause a substance to be created called HMF (Hydroxy Methyl Furfural: C6H6O3). This substance is potentially carcinogenic (cause cancer) to humans.
