Iranian fig
About 1.2 million tons fig is produced all over the world which 58 thousand tons of this amount is produced inside Iran. Last year (2017) the amount of export of this organic crop is valued 17 million dollars.
Based upon Iranian agricultural news report and also ISNA news agency, Estahban town which is located in Fars province; had the highest amount of produced fig and was the first and the biggest fig producer inside Iran. Because the gardeners use no amount of pesticide in the process, this crop (Iranian fig) is totally organic and has a high value among all the agricultural crops.
Around 47,000 hectares of Fars province is under production of fig; which Estahban town s’ share is 23,500 hectares and well of course the best of them.
Although countries like Turkey, Egypt, Spain, Portugal also produce this crop; Iranian fig has the best quality and is unique in taste and nutrition.
Iranian Figs
Last year the amount of 12,000 tons of fig was produced inside Estahban town and is predicted that in the coming year it will be around 14,000 tons.
According to the report of agricultural ministry of Iran, A Nederland company named Union has approved and issued certificates of organic crops to more than 800 hectares of these land and still going.
Most of these products are being exported in the shape of dried fig. Being dry will not only expand the shelf life of this fruit; but also make the shipping and storing easier.
The amount of exported fig from Fars province is 3180 tons and has a value of 17 million dollars and in some years this amount has a raise and reaches 8000 to 10,000 tons annually; the head of agricultural ministry added.
Equipping fig packaging industries with low temp. warehouses to store this valuable item is imperative. The head of Fars agricultural office said. As it is restricted to use Methyl Bromide to sterile this crop; the use of low-temp warehouses is needed to omit Plodia Interpanstella (a kind of small butterfly).
He added, one the other most important plans of this organization is changing the way of exporting this item. As there is a lot of added benefit on other types of products like: fig cake, cookies, molasses, marmalade, jam, etc. This organization will support the industries who can also produce these products beside the only packed fig.
